Kutak Rock’s Spokane office is looking ahead following a record year in 2024, driven by strong revenue and strategic expansion in key practice areas. Adam Baird, managing partner of the Spokane office, shared the firm’s optimism in a recent interview with the Journal of Business, citing increasing client demand and opportunities for expansion both locally and nationwide.

Adam emphasized the office’s dual focus: providing trusted counsel to local clients—including government agencies, universities, school districts, and developers—while also working on a national scale in areas such as public finance and tax law. The article also mentions Spokane’s two newest partners, Christopher Varallo  and Austin Graves who became partners earlier this year.

The Spokane office opened in 2014 and today has grown to include 12 attorneys and a total staff of 17, based in the historic Cutter Tower in downtown Spokane.

Adam noted that Kutak Rock’s revenue growth has been fueled by strategic hiring and increasing demand in areas such as affordable housing, employment law, commercial litigation, healthcare transactions, alternative energy, and water rights. The firm is also deeply involved in supporting clients in the tax-exempt bond space and has engaged a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm to help protect key client interests.

Beyond client service, Kutak Rock’s Spokane team is actively involved in the community, volunteering time and resources to nonprofits like Second Harvest Inland Northwest, Women Helping Women Fund, Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, and Communities in Schools of Spokane County.

Reflecting on the firm’s culture, Adam said, “I’m very proud of all the lawyers that I work with. They are independently actively engaged in various philanthropic efforts. We collectively believe that by giving of our time and ourselves, we not only make our community better, but we make our office better.”
