Kutak Rock LLP opened an office in Orange County, California in January 1997. In July of 2002, the office relocated from Newport Beach to Irvine, where it is home to more than 15 attorneys who focus their efforts on securitization and litigation.
Some of the Irvine attorneys’ accomplishments include:
- Representing a major financial guaranty insurer in connection with the issuance of $6,313,500,000 State of California Department of Water Resources Power Supply Revenue Bonds, Series 2002A.
- Representing several cities sued on the basis of alleged violations of the First Amendment rights of religious organizations under recent federal litigation entitled the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).
- Obtaining a $2 million judgment on behalf of an insurance company in a dispute over coverage for professional liability. See Reliance Ins. Co. v. Doctors’ Co. (299 F. Supp. 2d 1131)
- Assisting in nationwide defense of more than 50 secondary mortgage litigation putative class-action matters, the majority of which were successfully defended at the pleadings stage.
- Representing a major financial guaranty insurer in connection with a $70 million class-action suit against First Alliance Mortgage Company by its former borrowers.
