Fred Marienthal and Micah Halverson of Kutak Rock's Denver office served as counsel in Public Radio Capital's $2 million loan to eTown, a public radio program and civic-minded nonprofit organization. The loan will jump-start eTown's renovation of a building in downtown Boulder, Colorado into eTown Hall, a concert space, recording facility and administrative offices. When completed, eTown Hall will be a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified green building, generating most of its power on-site through solar panels and additional energy-efficient procedures. The eTown radio program began airing in 1991 and is now heard every week on nearly 300 radio stations in the U.S. The program is taped with a live audience and features music performances and conversation and information about communities and the environment.
Public Radio Capital (PRC) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to "strengthen and expand noncommercial media in communities nationwide." It began its Public Radio Fund in 2007 to benefit public radio organizations that need financing for asset-based projects. In expanding the reach of public radio, PRC seeks to provide communities with information, news and increased diversity in music and cultural programming.
Kutak Rock has worked closely with PRC on many transactions in recent years, and PRC has acknowledged Kutak Rock as a key partner in its funding efforts.
